If there’s any industry that changes often it’s definitely SEO. You only need to close your eyes and when you open them again there’s different methods you should be using. We are already into 2013 and some stuff you were using last year might not be as effective anymore. You definitely don’t want to waste your time on the things that aren’t going to bring you any results because you’re just wasting time that would be better spent on making profits. Let’s take a closer look at some things you should be concentrating on this year.
Become an authority
When people talk about other people it’s because they view them as an authority. That means if you want to get thousands of links without doing anything you need to be viewed as an authority in your field. The easiest way to do that is to release a book. It doesn’t matter if it’s free because you want as much people to read it as possible. Once they realize you know what you’re talking about they will view you as an authority because you’ve authored a great book.
Reach out to people
Having friends in your area of expertise is always going to help you out in the long-run. You don’t want to think of anyone as competitors in the blogging world because there’s enough room for everyone to have their fair share of readers, plus the cream always rises to the top. It’s better to be friends with as much people as possible because they will link to you all the time, but they will also hook you up with other people and the whole process is repeated.
Being interviewed by someone could be an easy way to be viewed as an authority at the same time as picking up a backlink or two to your site. How long would it take you to sit down one day and talk to as much people as you can? If you tried hard you would be able to squeeze in more than half a dozen interviews. If those were on popular blogs the backlinks you received would give you a good jump in your rankings.
Write for other people
Everyone knows about guest posting and it’s a pretty good strategy, but did you know you can also become a regular contributor to someone else’s blog and use some of their popularity to increase your own. If you continually write for another blog the loyal readers will begin to notice you. After that they will come through to your site to see what’s going on. It’s up to you whether you do it paid or unpaid, but just remember than sometimes a link plus exposure is enough to set your own blog in motion.
Get your on-page right
On-page SEO will always be an easy way to improve your search engine results. Google is very powerful, but at the end of the day it’s not psychic and it won’t be able to tell what your blog is about without the proper on-page SEO. Remember that the days of going overboard are definitely over and these days it’s more about leaving subtle hints in the right place. Although Google isn’t psychic it’s very, very smart.
Let people share
You still can’t go wrong with creating content that people will feel obliged to share. If you think about this before you create any content you’ll have a much bigger chance of succeeding. Who cares that it might take you a few shots before you get lucky? You can’t just give up, you must keep creating amazing list posts, free reports, infographics, or anything else people will share with everyone they know.
